There was always a reason, for L, always.
Life couldn't exist without reason, it just didn't work like that.
For example, there was a reason he wore his hair long enough to hang in his eyes, a reason behind his insistence that he cut it himself. It was nice to have a bit of length to cover the back of his neck, which his shirt left exposed, and if it was going to be that length at back, it needed to be the same length in the front, and since L couldn't trust anyone else to understand that well enough to actually do it, he did it himself.
